INNER LANDSCAPES _a project of aesthetic and cultural learning
As a former slaughterhouse, Kulturforum Fürth houses an eventful cultural history. At the time, physical nourishment was its primary contribution to culture. What kind of nourishment do we need now?
The Fürth Summer Academy addresses young performers, visual artists, dancers, who are interested in an intense, professional confrontation with the instrument that is the body in motion. For five days, we will come into movement together, research, and develop choreographic material. This artistic-aesthetic discourse will be based on exercises to enhance mindfulness and perception of body and space, the illumination of inner and outer spaces, and questioning the role of one‘s own desires in artistic creation. Three experts from the fields of body, space, and atmospheric research will share their specific areas of knowledge and will support the collective process which will flow into a final performance and exchange with the audience.
INNERE LANDSCHAFTEN _ein Projekt ästhetisch- kultureller Bildung
Als ehemaliger Schlachthof, blickt das Kulturforum Fürth auf eine bewegte Kulturgeschichte zurück. Damals stand die physische Nahrung als oberstes Kulturgut auf dem Programm. Welche Nahrung brauchen wir heute?
Die Sommerakademie Fürth richtet sich an PerformerInnen, bildende KünstlerInnen, TänzerInnen, die an einer intensiven und professionellen Auseinandersetzung mit dem Instrument Körper in Bewegung interessiert sind. Über fünf Tage werden wir gemeinsam in Bewegung kommen, forschen und choreographisches Material entwickeln. Übungen zur Achtsamkeit und Köper- Raumwahrnehmung, das Beleuchten von Innen- und Aussenraum und die Frage nach der eigenen Lust im Bezug auf Kreation stehen im Vordergrund der künstlerisch– ästhetischen Auseinandersetzung. Drei Experten aus dem Feld der Körper- Raum- Atmosphärenforschung speisen spezifisches Fachwissen ein und begleiten den gemeinsamen Prozess, der schließlich in eine Abschlussperformance mündet und im Austausch mit dem Publikum seinen Ausklang findet.
We will devote ourselves to this creative process through three different choreographic and somatic practices:
Body-Mind-Centering (BMC) with Christian Meier
Body-Mind-Centering is a type of movement and body work based on an experiential anatomy and physiology of the human body. The practice is based on fine-tuning (bodily) perception, in order to develop movement, expression, and dance from the body's inner structures. These inner structures will be communally explored, moved,
and touched. Highly subtle inner movements emerge and support our outer movement into space, into our environ- ment, into artistic encounters with an audience.
Christian Meier (*1978), Body-Mind Centering teacher and doctor, is interested in the relationships between ordering principles that are health-promoting and those that
are aesthetic. He is primarily dealing with transmitting experi- ential knowledge of the body as a source for creative-artistic and health-promoting processes. His base is his training in Body-Mind Centering (School of Body-Mind Centering, Amherst, USA, with Bonnie Bainbridge-Cohen, Jens Johannsen, et al.), his studies in medicine (University of Bonn), and music (Konservatorium Nürnberg / Musikhochschule Nürnberg).
Wir widmen uns diesem Gestaltungsprozess durch drei choreographisch und somatisch unterschiedliche Praktiken:
Body-Mind-Centering (BMC) mit Christian Meier
ist eine Bewegungs- und Körperarbeit, basierend auf einer erfahrbaren Anatomie und Physiologie des menschlichen Körpers. Eine feine Schulung der (Körper-) Wahrnehmung ist die Grundlage dieser Praxis, um aus den inneren Strukturen Bewegung, Ausdruck und Tanz zu entwickeln. Diese inneren Strukturen werden gemeinschaftlich erforscht, bewegt und berührt. Feinste Innenbewegungen treten zu Tage und tragen unterstützend unsere Außenbewegungen in den Raum, in die Umwelt, in die künstlerische Begegnung mit dem Publikum.
Christian Meier (*1978), Body-Mind Centering Lehrer
und Arzt, interessiert sich für die Zusammenhänge zwischen gesundheitsfördernden und ästhetischen Ordnungsprinzipien. Er beschäftigt sich schwerpunktmäßig mit der Vermittlung erfahrbaren Körperwissens als Quelle für kreativ-schöpferische und gesundheitsfördernde Prozesse. Grundlage hierfür ist eine Ausbildung in Body- Mind Centering (School of Body-Mind Centering, Amherst, USA; u.a. bei Bonnie Bainbridge-Cohen, Jens Johannsen), sein Medizin- (Universität Bonn) und Musikstudium (Konservatorium Nürnberg / Musikhochschule Nürnberg).
Atmospheric Composition with Barbara Bess
This choreographic research focuses on conscious place- ment and movement of bodies in space. We will get to the root of the local conditions on the ground, and will move in the field of interplay between inner and outer space. We will engage with subjectivity and objectivity as modes of perception and will search for the closest possible proximity, as opposed to distance, between actor and observer.
Structures such as light, sound, architecture, smells, temperature, and taking diverse perspectives relating to the visible and invisible will play an essential role.
Barbara Bess (*1980) is a choreographer, dancer, visual artist, teacher, and mother. After her studies in Salzburg (SEAD Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance) and Berlin (HZT & UdK Berlin) she returned to her home city of Nuremberg. Her choreographic work centers on focused interlacing and balancing of diverse layers of material and threads of perception, bodily landscapes and sensitive states. She interweaves moving installations, photography, and video with the physical presence of bodies, and uses these to create spaces with a strong atmospheric charge.
Atmosphärische Komposition mit Barbara Bess
Der Fokus dieser choreographischen Forschung liegt in der bewußten Platzierung und Bewegung von Körpern im Raum. Wir gehen den örtlichen Gegebenheiten auf den Grund und bewegen uns im Feld der Wechselwirkung von Innen- und Aussenraum, befassen uns mit Subjektivität und Objektivität als Wahrnehmungszustände und begeben uns auf die Suche nach größtmöglicher Nähe versus Distanz zwischen Akteur und Betrachter.
Strukturen wie Licht, Klang, Architektur, Geruch, Temperatur und das Einnehmen unterschiedlicher Perspektiven im Bezug zum Sichtbaren oder Unsichtbaren spielen hierbei eine entscheidende Rolle.
Barbara Bess (*1980) ist Choreografin, Tänzerin, bildende Künstlerin, Dozentin und Mutter. Nach ihrem Studium in Salzburg (SEAD Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance) und Berlin (HZT & UdK Berlin) kehrte sie zurück in ihre Heimatstadt Nürnberg. In ihren choreografischen Arbeiten ist das konzentrierte Ineinanderfügen und Ausbalancieren diverser Materialschichten und Wahrnehmungsstränge, Körperlandschaften und sensitiver Zustände zentral. Sie verwebt bewegte Installation, Fotografie und Video mit der physischen Präsenz von Körpern und erschafft damit atmosphärisch stark aufgeladene Räume.
Desire – on Intimacy in Process and Performance with David Bloom
David Bloom has been working continuously for many years through and about choreographic practice on the topics of intimacy, desire, boundaries. He draws on years of experience researching conscious sexuality, as well as his work with dance and choreography.
We will explore how presentation, identity, desire, intersubjectivity, and erotic energy intersect and inform each other, and how authentic, uncensored desire (and not just the erotic kind) can be used as material for working artistically. We will question the myth of "the project" as a parallel universe in which nothing that happens has consequences for "real life" – and the participants' boundaries are therefore different. The work proposes a holistic approach to making art, which both draws from and feeds back into our personal, social, and political realities.
David Bloom (*1981) is a choreographer, dancer, teacher, filmmaker, bodyworker, pianist, father, and tea collec- tor. Graduate of the M.A. Choreography course at HZT Berlin. Practice and research in the field of conscious sexuality, including studying with Midori, Felix Ruckert, Osada Steve, Joseph Kramer, and Barbara Carellas. His dance film trilogy "Sex & Space" premiered at the Berlin Porn Film between 2013 & 2016, and was screened inter- nationally. David was a 2012 danceWEB scholar and has taught at institutions such as HZT Berlin, Tanzquartier Wien, Tanzfabrik Berlin, Human Architecture Lab in St. Petersburg, K3 in Hamburg, the M.A. in Contemporary Dance Education in Frankfurt/Main, at the Body IQ Festival in Berlin, at the Rietveld Academy for Fine Arts & Design in Amsterdam and at the ImPulsTanz Festival in Vienna.
Desire – Intimität in Prozess und Performance mit David Bloom
David Bloom arbeitet seit vielen Jahren kontinuierlich durch und über choreographische Praxis zu den Themen Intimität, Begehren, Grenzen. Dabei schöpft er aus jahrelanger Erfahrung sowohl im Forschungsraum der bewussten Sexualität, wie z.B. Tantra und BDSM, als auch aus seiner Arbeit mit Tanz und Choreographie.
Er erforscht, wie sich Präsentation, Identität, Begehren, Intersubjektivität und Erotische Energie überschneiden und gegenseitig informieren, und wie authentisches, unzensiertes Begehren (und nicht nur erotischer Natur) als Material benutzt werden kann, künstlerisch zu arbeiten. Wir hinterfragen den Mythos des “Projekts” als Paralleluniversum, in dem nichts, was passiert, Konsequenzen im “richtigen Leben” hat - und die Grenzen der Beteiligten daher andere sind. Die Arbeit schlägt einen ganzheitlichen Ansatz an das Kunstschaffen vor, der sich sowohl aus unseren persönlichen, gesellschaftlichen und politischen Realitäten speist, als auch auf sie einwirkt.

Langjährige Forschung und Praxis im Bereich bewusste Sexualität, studierte u.A. bei Midori, Felix Ruckert, Osada Steve, Joseph Kramer und Barbara Carellas. Seine Tanzfilmtrilogie "Sex & Space" hatte zwi- schen 2013 und 2016 beim Berlin Porn Film Festival Premiere und wurde international gescreent. David war 2012 danceWEB-Stipendiat und unterrichtete u.A. am HZT Berlin, Tanzquartier Wien, Tanzfabrik Berlin, Human Architecture Lab in St. Petersburg, K3 in Hamburg, im Masterstudiengang Contemporary Dance Education in Frankfurt/Main, beim Body IQ Festival in Berlin, an der Rietveld Academy for Fine Arts & Design in Amsterdam, & am ImPulsTanz Festival in Wien.
